The Runway Starts With YOU
If fashion is life, where does it begin?
Beyond the shimmering lights and decadent designs found on the catwalk: there are individuals who join to form the structure of that very magical moment in time. There are careers beyond designers and models that give fashion the breath of life. Fashion isn’t just a moment; fashion is an entire world where business and art collide.
Before a model takes that very first step, there is a casting director who hand-picked her for that very show, a stylist, and an MUA who gave her a look that stays ingrained. Sure, people can love a designer but without journalism, marketing, and advertising, the world wouldn’t even know there had been a show. The stunning visuals, location, and music are due to the hard work of the creative team. And the finance team plays a crucial role in funding and organizing everything. All these people come together to make a designer’s vision come to life and leave a lasting imprint on the world.
Whatever your talents are: If you love fashion, there is a place for you.
This is the place for you.
The Dress Code Club is an organization built to hone your skills, expand your network, and inspire you to make your mark in the fashion world.
Here are some recaps on previous events:
Insights from the founder of Petra Stellam, Luis Ruiz. The visionary designer offered key insights on his journey into the world of luxury fashion by sharing techniques, ways to get connected, and advice on how to be resourceful. He even offered special opportunities for those in attendance.
Dolce & Gabbana showing at the Theater was a magnificent way to showcase the artistry of men’s fashion. After the showing, President Mia Garcia encouraged those in attendance to take the “runway”. The room was filled with laughter and joy as every student had the opportunity to shine on stage.
Guest speaker, Joshey: Stylist, model, and casting director made an appearance. Joshey is making strides and shining a new light on luxury fashion in Houston. He shared cost-efficient ways to create luxurious looks inspiring those who love fashion but are sometimes afraid to take a step into the world due to financial limitations. Joshey showed how to dive in without breaking the bank. “Honestly, luxury is just a feeling. It’s not a price point” he said.
The club’s first styling workshop was hosted by Joshey. He put his words into action at his styling class in the Fred J. Heyne building on October 1st. Students paired off into groups of two and created a stunning ensemble of looks. The workshop encouraged teamwork and creativity through pairing unconventional items.
